Attractions You Must Visit When You Book with Highland Club Direct
Loch Ness and Inverness not only have the famous Nessie, but a wealth of both indoor and outdoor attractions, so you’ll always be able to find something fun to do. There’s nothing better than exploring the rich culture, history and places the Highlands of Scotland have to offer, especially Inverness.
Merkinch Local Nature Reserve Set in the heart of Inverness, Merkinch Local Nature Reserve is somewhat of a hidden gem, so much so that many people living close to it don’t realise it’s there! Merkinch is rich with native wildlife and owls, weasels, Roe deer, cormorants, herons and numerous wading birds have all been spotted. Some very lucky people have even spotted an occasional Osprey and the Muirtown Pool’s kingfishers.
Eden Court Theatre & Cinema Set by a river in the heart of Inverness, Eden Court is the main cinema and theatre for the Highlands. Film and theatre buffs will be in Heaven with Eden Court’s two cinemas, two theatres, restaurant, cafe/bar and dance studios. You can even hire conference rooms, perfect if you want to put on an event in the area!
Around Loch Ness tours No trip to the Highlands is complete without a tour around Loch Ness. The variety of pre-packaged and tailor made tours let you decide whether you want to sit back and take in the scenery, get close to the history of the area or if you want to walk in the steps of your ancestors. The local guides at Around Loch Ness take groups of up to eight people, sharing their expansive knowledge of the area.
Knocknagael Boar Stone The Knocknagael Boar Stone was carved by the Ancient Picts and dates to around 600AD. Hundreds of stones have been found across the Highlands and no-one’s entirely sure why they were made. Every stone is unique, but the Knocknagael Stone is a truly exquisite piece of art that anyone interested in ancient history should view and you can find it at the Highland Council’s Headquarters.
The Highlanders’ Museum From the Battle of Culloden to today, The Highlanders’ Museum has the largest military artefact collection outside of London. Based within the working Fort George military barracks, The Highlanders’ Museum is set within the home of 3 SCOTS. The museum has a number of tours and activities throughout the summer months, providing fun for all the family.
Nessieland The entertaining Nessieland is perfect for family-friendly fun, and the perfect place to find out all about the legend of the Loch Ness monster. Not only can you take part in Loch Ness monster investigations, you can learn about the loch itself, including its long and exciting history. Nessieland has an adventure playground and the Nessie Cave, making it the perfect place to tire the kids out before enjoying a quiet night.
Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre The Battle of Culloden was the last battle fought on mainland Britain, but it only lasted one hour! The new visitor centre has an exciting interactive exhibition where you can experience what it was like to be part of the battle and find out how it changed life in both the Highlands and throughout the British Isles. When you stay at Highland Club Direct, you’ll find yourself in the centre of a rich and diverse place. Our friendly and professional team will be able to help you find the perfect attractions and places to visit during your holiday. Call 0800 731 6651 today to find out more.
